The Berkshire School, in partnership with Força! Soccer Tours, completed their August 2008 tour that brought a group of 29 players and 3 coaches from their boys soccer program to San Sebastián and Madrid, Spain. The Berkshire School, located in western Massachusetts, is a co-ed private college preparatory boarding school for students grades 9 through 12. |

San Sebastián The Berkshire group began their tour with 5 days in the Basque Country in the north of Spain. Based in San Sebastián, the group enjoyed much that this great city and environs has to offer.
The team trained several
times at the top class training center of Real Sociedad, and played
3 matches against local club teams. The matches were quite
challenging, but offered a good opportunity to prepare for the
team's upcoming season. Beyond enjoying their
soccer, the group spent quality time on the beaches in San Sebastián,
and over the border in Biarritz, France, as well as the great Basque
food, especially the pintxos. |

Madrid The Berkshire group completed their tour with 2 days in the Spanish capital. The group stayed in the heart of the old city center, within walking distance of many of the important cultural and historical sites, such as the Royal Palace and the Plaza Mayor. The team capped off the soccer experience in Madrid by attending the Spanish Supercopa final in a packed Santiago Bernabéu stadium, as the home team galacticos of Real Madrid hosted their rivals from Valencia for what turned out to be an all-time great match with the Madrid side coming from a 2 goal deficit to take the trophy. The Berkshire players enjoyed the post-match celebrations in the streets afterwards (photo left). The final day in Madrid included a morning training session, time for some exploring and shopping in the afternoon, and one last match in the evening against good local competition. |
