The Rio Maior training center is located 25 km west of Santarém

about 1 hour north of Lisbon.  Rio Maior is the former training

center for Sporting before the Academia Sporting was

constructed.  An official Euro 2004 training center, Rio Maior

continues to hosts many professional and amateur teams,

including the Russian national side during Euro 2004, the

Portuguese Olympic team leading up to the games in Athens,

and MLS teams from the US.  All of this activity makes the

center a great place to watch professional training sessions

during your stay.  Professional SuperLiga matches and stadium

tours can be attended at a number of stadiums in and around

Lisbon to the south, and in Leiria and Aveiro to the north.

The Rio Maior training center has 32 fully equipped rooms, most are

doubles & quads with private bathroom, television, safe box,

air-conditioning and refrigerator.  There is a large dining area, and

comfortable living room equipped with a variety of indoor games. 

Meals can be taken on-site and/or in a variety of quality local

restaurants.  Team supporters can be accommodated at any of a

variety of off-site hotel options within walking distance of the Rio

Maior training facilities.  Sightseeing and leisure options are plentiful,

including local beaches, medieval Óbidos, the River Tagus, and of

course the capital city of Lisbon to the south.
